Review: Dollhouse

Friday, February 13th, marked the beginning of a brand new TV series from sci-fi director Joss Whedon, creator of Angel, Firefly and Buffy.  The first episode seemed a bit shaky, but the second one on Friday night really picked up the pace.

The show follows the life of Echo, an “Active”, played by Eliza Dushku.  Her memory has been wiped, and she lives in a child-like state until she is imprinted with a new personality.  Actives live in a building nicknamed “Dollhouse” because they it is a toy-like laboratory/dorms/spa facility, until they are hired by customers for an “Engagment”, be it a date or an assassination.  The organization’s genius programmer, Topher, then imprints a personality on the Active, making he or she forget all previous memories and assume a completely new personality and history.

The main character is Echo, who is becoming self aware and remembering parts of her past.  A FBI agent, Paul Ballard, is tracking Echo through her past in an effort to find the Dollhouse.

The show looks good and may become a hit, although Firefly seemed like a good show for its first and only season.  Tune in every Friday night after Terminator on FOX to see it for yourself.  You can also watch previous episodes on Hulu.
